Research on Clean Energy Adoption in the North Country

REGIONAL BARRIERS ASSESSMENT (RABA)

This assessment was created as a tool to inform the direction of the North Country Clean Energy Hub. Our regional hub focuses on seven North Country counties: Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence.

WE ASKED THE COMMUNITY:

  • What do North Country residents need to make their homes healthier, more affordable, and more comfortable?

  • What motivates North Country residents to consider home efficiency and electrification upgrades?

  • What prevents the North Country workforce from meeting the existing demand for residential efficiency and energy upgrades?

  • How do these questions also apply to our region’s economic heart: small business owners and nonprofit leaders?

We hope the RABA aids in informing outreach, funding, and programs to ensure all North Country residents are included in this transition, especially residents of designated disadvantaged communities (DAC) and residents that are low- to moderate-income (LMI) in all communities.

A series of surveys were delivered to key audiences by utilizing methods designed to reduce barriers in participation. In doing so, the North Country Clean Energy Hub has captured an evidence-based snapshot of the region-specific barriers and opportunities for the clean energy transition.
