Cohort #1: Are you interested in the how and why of Photovoltaic Systems? If you have an existing system or would like to explore how they work, let us help you. Spend a few evenings with SUNY Canton’s Electrical Construction instructor discovering how these systems work with hands-on training. You will learn how to measure the electricity, understand the safety of high voltage direct current to alternating current, and how shading, open, and short circuits affect panel performance. You will experience what it is like to create a site plan for panel layouts on our mock roof and lay out your plan for your home.

BPI Energy Audits | FREE COURSE

EV Maintenance Training | FREE COURSE

Cohort #1: This course is designed to introduce electric vehicle (EV) technology, systems, and safety to a variety of workers involved in the vehicle maintenance, service, and repair sectors.  During this course, participants will become familiar with EV’s and will be able to describe electric vehicle technology to customers, employees, and supervisors. A focus on working safely around electric vehicles will be emphasized. Electric vehicle facility preparation, required tooling, personal protective equipment, and emergency response will be covered in detail with the goal of preparing participants for implementing EV service, repair, and diagnosis in the workplace. The course concludes with a 20-question exam resulting in a certificate of completion. Participation also includes one set of sized EV electrical safety gloves ($200 value).

EPA 608 Training & Exam | FREE COURSE

EPA regulations (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F) under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act require that technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release ozone depleting refrigerants into the atmosphere must be certified. Starting on January 1, 2018, this requirement will also apply to appliances containing most substitute refrigerants, including HFCs. Technicians are required to pass an EPA-approved test to earn Section 608 Technician Certification.

Passive Solar vs. Super-Insulation | FREE COURSE

Humans have appreciated (and even worshipped) the sun for millennia. Many have also considered its warming effect when constructing homes, positioning windows on the south side of the building, and locating the building on southern slopes of hillsides. The 1970s energy crisis inspired many to return to test these concepts (and others) in an attempt to reduce their home energy consumption. Out of this scramble for solutions, two distinct styles of building emerged - the passive solar house, which sought to scavenge as much sunshine as possible (absorbing "free" energy), and the second, the super-insulated house, which sought to minimize the loss of heat from the house (holding onto the energy it had). Each of these distinct approaches has pros and cons, but is there one that stands victor over the other? Join us to find out!
