Solar Power

Commercial Solar

Investing in commercial solar allows small businesses to gain greater control over energy costs while improving long-term financial stability. In addition to potential savings, solar energy can reduce your carbon footprint and showcase your business as a leader in clean energy. Contact your local Energy Advisor to navigate opportunities!

NY-Sun is a solar program run through NYSERDA that offers incentives, rebates, and financing options on solar systems.
Note that you must work with a
participating contractor to be eligible for incentives.

Federal & State Tax Credits

Federal and state tax credits may be available, even for nonprofit organizations who do not pay taxes. These organizations may still be able to access federal tax credits in the form of something called "direct pay," which is also known as "elective pay." This was established by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) so that nonprofits can receive the full value of the tax credit via a cash payment from the IRS. For more information, ask your Technical Energy Advisor or check with an accounting service for updated incentives.

There is also an opportunity for homeowners, renters, businesses, nonprofits, and others to access the benefits of solar power without installing panels on their property. Community solar projects generate renewable energy on behalf of multiple customers, who receive credits on their monthly electric bills for their share of the clean electricity that’s produced.
