Up to $40,000 in Energy Efficiency Funds and Heating Upgrades
Available for Daycares & Nonprofits

About the Program

The North Country Clean Energy Hub (the Hub) is offering technical assistance and funding opportunities to assist daycare centers and other eligible nonprofit organizations providing critical services in completing energy efficiency and heating system upgrades. These improvements can include insulation upgrades, electrical upgrades, and/or installation of heat pump systems.

Heat pump systems provide heating and cooling with just one system and can allow these facilities to operate efficiently and comfortably throughout the year. This funding could help organizations save money on energy costs and help maintain operations to support the critical needs of our communities.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, the organization must be a licensed daycare center operating as businesses or nonprofit (home daycares are not eligible), or nonprofit organizations that provide critical services (serve as warming or cooling centers, adult centers, and food pantries).

*note: applicants with aging or failing heating systems will be prioritized

Why Daycares & Nonprofits?

We value and recognize the critical services our region’s daycares and nonprofits offer to our communities. Many of these organizations operate buildings with aging heating systems and cannot afford the energy efficiency upgrades that have the potential to reduce energy costs.

Due to rising fuel costs, comparatively inexpensive rates for electricity, and an increased need to offer cooling during warmer months, upgrades to improve energy efficiency are needed for the continued provision of these valued services.

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Own the building where upgrades will be made

  • Located within the 7 counties of the North Country (Clinton, Franklin, Essex, Hamilton, St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis)

  • Create plan to meet any agreed-upon expenses above the award amount

  • Commit to working with Hub staff for the duration of the application and building upgrade process, including providing access to one year of utility bills and allowing for in-person visits when needed

  • Participate in the GJGNY Energy Study

  • Host an educational open house event after project completion

All prospective applicants are highly encouraged to work with The Hub staff for no-cost technical assistance prior to applying for this opportunity. Please reach out to Bella Abbadessa, North Country Clean Energy Hub Program Coordinator, for assistance.
